Conservation Camps

Conservation Camps for Kids are one of the main summer activities featured at the Cliffs.

There are three main camps this year .  The first camp in June is full, the second camp is July 21st – July 28th and the third is August 5th to 12th.  The camps are $699/child plus HST.  We are offering a 'family discount' if you have more than one child attending.

It is our goal to instill in the kids a love and appreciation of the outdoors, to be safe, knowledgeable and confident.  Our program teaches life skills and confidence building. Safety is a primary concern, and we strive to have quality instructors. Our councillors are highly motivated, skilled and have an excellent rapport with the campers. Our councillors are carefully selected for the camps and all have much to offer the children.  One of the camps' favourite activities is playing 'Mantracker', trying to outwit the Mantracker T.V. series champions, Alana Wadley & Kaleigh Allen.

We teach swift water safety, allowing us to spend much time on the river, rafting, kayaking, swimming and saving trapped salmon fry.  Our horses are outstanding and each camper will eventually be comfortable and confident around them.  Some of the skills the campers learn are fishing, picking berries and making jam, making bread, campfire cooking, processing fish, identifying tracks, planting trees, horseback riding, bear aware and much more.  We hope the children will acquire an appreciation for conservation and the environment.  There are many instructors and guest speakers who attend the camp throughout the week, sharing their knowledge with the kids. Past guests include: Walter Bucher - Swift Water Safety, Roy Henry Vickers - World Famous Native Artist and Motivational Speaker, James D'Angel - Federal Fisheries, Ali Howard - The woman who 'Swam the Skeena', Shannon McPhail - from Skeena Watershed Coalition, speaking about conservation & environment, B.C. Parks - Teaching 'Bear Awareness', David Nash - Dutch Oven Cooking, Heather Muir - Plant Medicines, Ida Nash - Tree Planting, Vicky Lee - Campfire Treats, and Jim Allen - Fly Casting, Craig Roy-Helicopter rides and safety.

The average age of campers are 10-15, but we've had both younger and older ages attend.

“The environment and our children are the future, both must be taken care of.”-The Cliffs
